Why oil a wooden floor?
Oil treatment impregnates and saturates the wood and brings out its grain and colour. The right treatment extends the life of the floor and postpones sanding. Daily wear and frequent washing slowly wash the oil out of the floor, making the wood more susceptible to dirt and quicker to wear. We use only FAXE products for oil treatment.
When does a wooden floor need oiling?
An oiled floor needs maintenance when the surface looks dry or dull, when the colour becomes uneven, or when the wood absorbs moisture and dirt more easily. Wear usually shows first along walkways, at entrances and around workstations. The need must be assessed on the floor itself, because wood type, previous treatment, cleaning method and load all play a part.
Before treatment, we check whether the floor is actually oiled and whether the oil suits the wood and the existing surface. Lacquered floors need a different solution, and for other hard-wearing floor types polish treatment may be the right choice.
How the oil treatment is prepared
The room must be accessible, and furniture or loose fittings are moved as agreed. The floor is cleaned so that dust, grease and residue from unsuitable care products do not interfere with the treatment. Once the surface is dry, the oil is applied according to the product instructions and excess oil is removed, so the floor does not become sticky or uneven.
You will be told how long it takes to dry and when the floor can be walked on and washed again. Afterwards, cleaning should use methods and products suited to an oiled wooden floor, which we can build into your daily cleaning.

How often should a wooden floor be oiled?
It depends on wear and cleaning. Floors with heavy traffic usually need treatment more often than floors in offices with little foot traffic. We assess the need based on the condition of the floor.
Can all wooden floors be oiled?
No. Lacquered floors need a different treatment. We always inspect the floor and test a small area first if needed.
How long will the floor be out of use?
We carry out the treatment outside working hours so the floor can dry before you arrive. You will be told exactly about drying time and the first wash.
